Why, I'm glad you asked. :) Margaret has been my favorite name since I was about 14, and we've been planning on using it for our first daughter for at least 4 years now. It just sounds so beautiful and it's musical and jewelly to say. It's primarily a nice solid, domestic name, my favorite kind, but I can picture it on any sort of girl. I think it can sound athletic, professional, quirky, anything, really.

I love it by itself, but would use a nickname at least at home. I'm never sure which my favorite is, and I don't dwell on it because in my experience you need to meet the kid before deciding on what nickname fits them best (or full name, for that matter!). But my favorites are Gretchen, Mamie, Margo, Mae, and Meg.

Margaret itself is my favorite, closely followed by Mairéad. I love Mererid, too, and also like Marguerite.

I think it's a beautiful under-used classic nowadays. Definitely less common than Elizabeth and Sophia, elegant, and with lots of nickname potential. Margaret works well on its own, but I love Meg as a nickname. My favorite variants internationally are:

I like it with or without a nickname. (My favorite nicknames for it are Meg, May/Mae, and Mattie. I also like Meggie and Megsie/Megsy as occasional family nicknames.)

My affection for Margaret stems mostly from my great love for its fantastic variants and diminutives. I'd be happy to meet someone else's nicknameless Margaret, but if I used it, I'd need a nickname. For me, that's where the charm lies.

I'd be more likely to use Greta, Megan, Margo, and Marjorie than Margaret.

I adore Margaret! It's just so simple and charming. Maggie would have to be my favorite nickname, Marguerite my favorite alternative form~

I adore Margaret. I used to overlook her and think she was plain. But then her deeper qualities began to show through. I now get the picture of a great lady when I see Margaret. She isn't loud; she's a still-waters-run-deep kind of name.

I love Margaret, and I vastly prefer the full form to Margaret NN Maggie. However, I do enjoy Mae, Madge, Maisie, Meg, Peg, and Peggy as nicknames.

My favorite forms are Margery / Marjorie and Marguerite, though I also love Mairead, Margalit, Margareta, Margot, Margrethe, and Margriet.

Margaret is one of those names that I wouldn't usually like. It's not my usual fluid, pretty name. But I can't deny how classic and timeless it is, and it has got its own kind of beauty. It's very sophisticated and elegant, and I love Greta as a nickname (Greta Garbo!). Meg is nice, too.

I like the name Margaret a good deal, but I'm not a fan of any of the nn's. I've known a few women to always go by the full name Margaret, and I always think it sounds so substantial and stylish and intelligent.

I would only use Margaret with a nickname. I adore Maggie and would use it just for that. (Well and that it would honor my grandmother). I also like Meg and Greta.

I kind of like Margaret. It feels very old and dated and heavy. A nickname keeps it young and fresh. I actually like Marguerite better. Maggie is a top contender for a second daughter (if we have one) and I would strongly consider both Margaret and Marguerite. I like Marguerite more but worry about people having difficulty spelling/pronouncing it. And I think most people find it more dated than Margaret.

It's ok in and of itself... Unfortunately brings an extremely racist member of the eugenics movement to mind, but there are other Margarets around that redeem the name somewhat.

I think it's okay. It's not my favourite. I just like Margaret, no nn. I'm not sure if this is actually pronounced differently, but I like Margarite.

I love Margaret. We used Margrethe for a middle, which is a family name. We pronouce it mar-gret in English, but in Danish it's more like mah-GREY-teh. I've always liked it. I like Maggie, Margot, and Greta as nick names.

Margaret is my great-grandma's name, and she goes by Peg or Peggy. I would use Margaret to honour her, but probably not Peg.

I think it's a bit too long as a name on it's own. I would use Maggie or Greta as a nickname for Margaret - Greta is probably my favourite.

I like it but I don't really like any of its nicknames. I also think it sounds kind of dated so I would only use it as a middle name.
