[Facts] Re: Does anyone know a reliable source for Native American names?
Unfortunately the best I can do is refer you to the following site which tells you about some of the more egregious errors in this field:http://www.native-languages.org/wrongnames.htmThe author of the site suggests that the best thing to do if one wants to find real Native American or Amerindian names is to consult a work by a linguist or anthropologist on a individual tribe or nation. For the Choctaw language in particular, you could try to get some books on the language and/or culture of the Choctaws through Interlibrary loan and see if they have any information about names. Perhaps one to start with would be Choctaw Language and Culture by Marcia Haag & Henry Willis, University of Oklahoma Press, 2001, ISBN 0806133392.
