[Opinions] Mara or Brenna?
If you had to choose either Mara or Brenna for a daughter, which one and why?

Both sound bad in Swedish. A Mara is an evil spirits who rides your body during the night (yup, a nightmare) and Brenna sounds like bränna, to burn (something or someone). But if I lived in, let's say, England, I would choose Mara since I like Julie Bertagna's book series in which Mara is the heroine (Exodus, Zenith, Aurora).

MaraIt's got a lovely dark shine to it!

Mara. Even though the meaning and the Biblical references have always deterred me from this name, it sounds pretty and is just so simple and sweet to look at. While I like Brenna, all of the Brenna's I know have been very manly girls. Not in a "girls shouldn't be masculine" way, but in a "they are always complaining about how tall or hairy they are" way. Anyway. It's far more a deterrent than Mara v Ruth.

MaraI think it just sounds better, similar to Amara, which I really like. I usually like -enna names, but Brenna doesn't do it for me.

It has a more attractive sound. Brenna sounds odd to me.

MaraI just like it more ..
I generally like Mar-names and dislike Br-names. Brenna's not bad, but Mara is so much more appealing to me.

Definitely Mara; Brenna looks wrong and sounds like a sloppy version of Brenda (which I dislike in its own right). I knew a very pleasant Mara once, which also helps.

One letter can make all the difference. While I greatly dislike Brenda, I do like Brenna very much. It has a softer feel than Brenda AND Mara which has always come across as quite harsh to me. And then there's the meaning, 'bitter.'Based on sound, they're both attractive. I just prefer Brenna.

Brenna because it is one of my favorite names. I always thought it was a great way to honor my Aunt Brenda.

BrennaMara is so dull. Brenna is kind of dull too, but at least it has a nice sound. It's a lot better than Brenda or Brianna.

Mara! I love it. Brenna seems dated, not ready to come back yet.

Although Brenna has fallen since it was most popular in the mid-1990s, it was never that popular even then, never higher than #235. That's why I'm surprised to see it referred to as dated. Maybe it's just me, but I think a name has to have been much more popular than that to ever be dated.

I think it's just the feel of Brenna, because it's similar to Brenda and Brianna (both dated in different ways). At least that's how I feel about it.

Mara! It is cuter and cooler than Brenna which I don't like as much as Brenda or Brianna!

MaraMara! It's one of my favorites. Even though it's pretty simple, it has a kind of gloomy vibe that I'm attracted to. I pronounce it like MAR-a, almost like Maura, not like Kara.Brenna is okay, seems like it fits in with a trend that came and went.

Mara by a long shot. Brenna sounds so dated-trendy to me, like a cross between Brianna and Jenna, which are both very late-80s-early-90s to me. Mara is underused and beautiful. I have a new friend named Mara and I love saying her name.

Both are good but my pick would definitely be Mara as that happens to be one of my top favorite names (:
