[Opinions] Nicknames - y or i ending?
I’ve liked the name Marcella for a long time and I’ve always imagined that if I’d use it, it would be with the nickname Marcy. I wouldn’t write off the spellings Marci or Marcie either. When you like a nickname ending in the “ee” sound, which spelling do you tend to prefer?

Well, actually I tend here to prefer the simple, but very sympathetic way of -i spelling probably the best, like Anni, Susi or Lilli (e.g.)

I usually go with a Y or the most accepted spelling sans Lucy which I prefer being spelled Luci!

I generally prefer -ie for nicknames. I think the combination of letters looks pleasant.

I like Hallie, Ellie, Jessie, etc. I guess I prefer ie in most feminine nicknames

As a nickname... Probably 'i'.If I had an Alexa or Lexa or even Alexandra, I would imagine shortening her to Lexi from time to time.
An Alice of mine may often be Ali.
Octavia is my top name at the moment, I don't imagine nicknaming her but if I did, she could potentially be Tavi.

I like Y endings. Both I and IE look too cutesy to me.

I've always been criticized for sloppy penmanship, so in elementary school, I used 'ie' rather than 'y', as the tail under the 'y' would drop too far and convolute the writing beneath it. The "ee" sound definitely softens the edge of formality for pet names.

It depends on the name, I think. I far prefer Vicki to Vickie or Vicky, for instance. But far prefer Judy to Judi or Judie.

Yes to Vicki! Same to Judy, though Jody is a different story since I prefer Jodie and Jodi!

Not an -i, and not an -ey. And I mostly prefer -y to -ie except with names like Maggie. Funny how Maggie needs an -ie but Peggy doesn't. Margy looks unnatural, but Margie is fine. I was at school with a Sallie, and that looked wrong too. Maybe it's just what I'm used to that looks good.Thinking about Johnnie Walker Scotch and the poet Rabbie Burns, I wonder if an -ie spelling is or was typically Scottish.

Yes, Maggie and Margie are exceptions to me, as far as not liking IE endings. Maybe only because the IE ending is so established in those two cases, but Maggy and Margy just don't look right. There may be a few other exceptions that I'm not remembering right now.Of course, I really hate both Maggie and Margie anyway.

I love the name Maggie, I guess at any spelling, though I'd first consider the 'ie' appendage.

Y, then ie, then far far behind, i. The -i ending just seems really tacky and dated to me.
