[Opinions] Samantha
I really like Samantha in its full form. What do you think? Too dated? Is Sam avoidable (I like it for a boy but not so much on a girl).

Well, I'm extremely biased. But I will say that I've managed to avoid the nickname Sam. I use my full name.

It's okay. I have a cousin with the name, and she went by Sammy, until she became a teenager and decided on Samantha. I think people will call her Sam, but she can always correct them, if that is not a nickname SHE likes. It's all up to the kid.

I love it, but never would have used it because I would never have been able to convince myself that Sam is avoidable. My youngest sister loves it but didn't use it because it was too popular. She also loves Susannah but didn't use it because we have a half-sister named Suzanne. In a world in which Samantha wasn't popular and we didn't have a half-sister named Suzanne, my sister would have two daughters named Samantha and Susannah.

I don't think it's too dated, it maybe is tied to a certain time it was most popular but it still hasn't fallen off the map.Sam is 100% unavoidable.

I don't think Samantha is dated at all. It's been pretty popular for a good thirty years or so, and while it might not be top 10 now, it's not dated and won't be for a good while, if it ever is.I think Sam is avoidable at home, but you really can't control what a person prefers to be called by by their friends or people they work with.
