What are your thoughts on Alice? Anything that come to mind.
Also any idea why it stopped rising? It seems like a name that really fits in with current trends but it doesn't seem to rise quickly.

I love it. It's one of my favorite names. I probably wouldn't use it because I always end up giving my kids nicknames and I don't like any of the nicknames that can be derived from it. In theory, though, I love it.

I want to love Alice. Look at all the famous Alice's- Alice Hoffman, Alice Walker, Alice Munro, Alice Roosevelt, Alice Coltrane, Alice Paul, Alice Liddell.
All the Alices I've met in real life have also been strong and amazing women.
and yet, I just can't get behind it. it ends with a hiss sound, and it has the word lice in it. I wish I could use the medieval spelling of either Alix or Alys, but most people would assume that they were creative spellings

I don't like it. I think I'm in the wrong generation. It seems frumpy to me.
I do like Alys though. Go figure.

I was born in the 90s and all the Alices I know are Asian.
Nowadays, though, it's a stupid yuppie baby name. I'm so over it. You know half of em are going to wind up being Allie and their parents will hate it cause that's //common//. Allison is still more popular.

I think it’s beautiful. It’s timeless, sweet, short, and reminds me of lace and delicate flowers. Alice in Wonderland is also a really cool literary connection. I think I might be one of those aforementioned stupid yuppies though, so you may not want to take my word for it.

Alice is one of my favourite names - classic and sweet with a lovely meaning, and nostalgic childhood associations (Alice in wonderland + my cat). I also like the related Adelaide, but dislike Alicia.
I think it may have stopped rising for the same reason as Jane or Mary - people just thought it too boring (even though neither Jane nor Mary are wildly popular right now).

It falls in the grandparent-turned-hipster name category for me, like Stella and Otis. I probably wouldn't have a strong reaction one way or the other if I met someone named Alice. I definitely prefer this spelling over "Alys" that I've seen posted here a few times.

I prefer Alice too, but Alys or Alis isn't just a trendy spelling (I don't know if that's what you mean or not, but many people do seem to think so), it's the primary spelling in some languages. My parents only ever considered using Alys if my brother had been a girl, because my sister and I have Welsh names and it would have seemed odd for another child to have the English spelling.
