Cecily, by milesWhen I first became interested in names, Cecily was among my favorites - in fact, Cecily Faye was a favored combo.Cicely, on the other hand, sounds like Sicily. And while my ancestors may have been from there, I don't exactly want to name my kid that.

I went through a phase not that long ago of liking the name Sicily which is the same as Cicely but spelt differently. Right now I would choose Cecily because of how is spelt but if it were between Cecily and Sicily it would be equal.

I like Cicely a little better because of the botanical thing. Cecily is like Emily, sort of blandly sweet and conventional.
I'd rather be Cicely. I might be a little more inclined to use Cecily for a daughter, just because it's more conventional.
Both have slightly negative associations for me (Cicely sounds like sissy, Cecily looks like cecum).
Cicely sounding like Sicily isn't worse IMO than the likelihood that people will missay Cecily as "See-silly."
I don't think the Sicily thing is a big distinguishing factor. I think if people are not paying attention they're probably just as likely to misinterpret Cecily as Sicily. If they are paying attention, they'll notice that it's Cicely and not Sicily.

My father was Cecil, and I would have happily been a Cecily. Cicely doesn't look as authentic.

Cecily, unless the fact that Cicely sounds exactly like Sicily is a plus to you (it's not to me).

Cecily. Cicely looks wrong, although I do prefer the pronunciation. If you wanted the siss-el-ee pronunciation, I think I'd prefer Sicily.

Cecily. It's lovely, frilly, and the name of an Oscar Wilde character, while Cicely looks like a typo of Sicily.

I like Cecily better. Cicely is easier to say but Cecily reminds me of a character I like and I also prefer the look of it for some reason.

Cecily looks and sounds better to me. I tend to like more traditional names, personally.
