That actually isn't the state fish. It was for a time, but it isn't at the moment. My name in Hawaiian is apparently Ame Lae (Amy Rae). Not particularly exciting. My sisters are Lupe Lepeka (Ruby Rebecca) and Kala Kini (Sara Jean). I like Kala Kini; it sounds pretty! They haven't got a phonetic translation of Juniper. Now I'm sad. ;)Array (whose favourite Hawaiian name is Kekepania)

Dana - Kana
Eric (DH) - Elika
Corbin (DS) - Kolupine
Gavin (DS) - Kawine
Colin (DS) - KalinaIt's funny that all of us except hubby ended up with a K name. Eric and Colin's phonetic translations appear very feminine to me. No clue on the pronunciations though...

Dana - Kana (KAH-NAH)
Eric (DH) - Elika (AY-LEE-KAH)
Corbin (DS) – Kolupine (KOH-LOO-PEE-NEH)
Gavin (DS) – Kawine (KAH-WEE-NEH)
Colin (DS) – Kalina (KAH-LEE-NAH)A LOT ... Mark That A LOT of male names in Hawaiian are what most would consider girly. My husband to this day loves the name Kalani..(KAH-LAH-NEE) it sounds so girly to me... But he says it is very masculine and strong.

The reason Eric and Colin seem "feminine" to you is that in the Hawaiian language there is a rule that every word must end in a vowel sound. The Hawaiian versions of Corbin and Gavin, Kolupine and Kawine, would have the "e" at the end pronounced; it would not be silent and so they would sound something like "ko-lu-pee-neh" and "ga-wee-neh". (I'm not sure where the accent would fall.)
