I don't really like it if it's pronounced Kath-ə-rin or Kath-rin like Katherine. The middle "e" in Katherine is easier to disappear, but when it's an "a" you almost have to say Kath-ah-rin with a mini emphasis. I like the "a" in names like Katharina, Katarina, etc. but if that letter is supposed to be nearly silent, it should really be an e.
