I guess the appeal is/was that it's classic, non-religious, usually easy to spell, some literary associations, and very in style now, and originally hadn't gotten a whole ton of use before it suddenly started gaining.
I don't like it, it's very bland and seems prissy and babyish at the same time. It's like Amy and Sarah and Jennifer that way.

My mum considered it terribly old fashioned because it was her grandmother's name. But it's everywhere along with Emilia, Emma, Emerson and any other Em name. It needs a break.

Emily as a MN would be a surprise.

It's pretty, but it's just so boring. There's nothing wrong with it, I just think it's overdone.

It's a family name, going back to the 19th century in a branch of the family that I've never been in contact with. And only as a mn. It is gently, shimmeringly beautiful and was never inordinately viral here, so I'd still be willing to use it. My default combo is Alice Emily, which is totally Victorian and lovely. And if it's good enough for Simon and Garfunkel AND Pink Floyd, who are we to argue?

I like it because Emily Dickenson is my favorite poet. It could use a rest but I think I'll always like it.

My mother suggested Emily as a name for my daughter, in 2006 - and I think I made a face. But I don't think it's a bad name.
It's still nice and usable. I think I'd like it much more, if it hadn't been so insanely popular. I like the sounds in it.
I don't love it, though. It has a slightly stuffy or prissy vibe for me, like Alice - it never quite seemed youthful and strong and full of potential, to me. I like Hannah better (a name that was also too popular, at the same time).

I appreciate Emily, it has a lot of positive qualities, but it's overused. That is why I like Emilia more.

I actually don't find it as desiccated as Jennifer or Sarah. I think of Emily Dickinson.

I can sort of glimpse what's nice about it, sometimes. It's friendly and pretty and humble.

It’s one of those classic names that just lingers and lingers (like my own name, Sarah) and there will always be people who want to use names like that. I do like it, though when naming my own children, definitely went for more unusual, yet not unheard of names.

It's pretty when said aloud, and I've known a few Emilys who have been sweet women who have been very, for want of a better word, 'cute' - cute looking and sweet personalities, rounded and good-hearted, and it does make me have an 'awww, cute' reaction towards Emily.

Honestly I’m not really a fan of Emily. It just appealed to me. It’s really boring, but it’s better to be boring than to be bad.
