Dulcie - First heard this name in a movie about 25 years ago! Wow, now that’s taking me back! It really got my attention and peaked my interest straight away. I think it’s a lovely name, with a really sweet meaning.Mildred - Extremely frumpy and ugly, sorry! It sounds like the name of a very old, very grumpy, hoarder lady who lives alone in her house with 15 cats and doesn’t like anybody! Iris - I love the meaning, the flowers are very pretty, but the eye association puts me off a bit.Florence - Again, love the meaning and I find it very pretty, but the Flo or Florrie nns put me off big time! An excellent choice for a mn though. I had an Ada Florence in my family tree and I’ve always thought that combo was one of the most beautiful pairings I’ve ever seen.Vera - It’s ok, but nothing super special.Olive - Very cute, I like it a lot. The food association doesn’t even bother me.Ivy - Love it! Such a cute, spunky little name!Miriam - I have a niece with this name and I think it’s just lovely.Esme - An absolute fave of mine. I love this name so much. The sound is appealing, the meaning is sweet, just a beautiful name.Clementine - A nice name, I do really like it, but probably wouldn’t use it.

Dulcie - conflicting associations: the 'sweet' meaning, and a prominent bearer, who created from scratch a ballet school (at the University of Cape Town) of international standard. She was a fighter!Mildred - unlikely to remain Mildred, which has history and dignity; Millie/Milly has neither.Iris - lovely flower; colourful part of the eye?! Starts with the EYE sound, like the pronoun, which puts me off. Same with, eg, Eileen and Ivor.Florence - family name on both sides: I'd love to use it, but Flo and Florrie are real turn-offs. Excellent as a mn.Vera - all right, I suppose; I prefer Verity.Olive - a relative, born before WWI, was named Olivia but insisted on being called Olive. In her place, I would have stayed Olivia.Ivy - such an annoying plant, and it's got that egocentric EYE that puts me right off.Miriam - Beautiful! The prettiest version of Mary, though I used Mary as a mn for family reasons.Esme - another family name that I love; I've never had bad luck with an Esme, and one of the best school teachers I ever had was called Esme for the meaning, although it wasn't her actual name at all. I'd love to use it.Clementine - the fruit and the song are deterrents. I know a Clementene whose parents chose that spelling to ensure the pronunciation they wanted, that wouldn't give rise to boring 'jokes', and it's working well.

Dulcie - It's a very sweet name; I love how it sounds!Mildred - Honestly, while not a favorite, I can definitely appreciate Mildred's history. I think that it sounds kind of pretty, too!Iris - I love the meaning "Rainbow," but I've been hearing it a lot recently. I don't know why, but that kind of dulls it for me.Florence - I think that this is a very beautiful name for a girl. Vera - Pretty, classy, and punky.Olive - I'm not a huge fan, because of the food association. However, there are much worse names out there.Ivy - I think that Ivy is a really pretty name.Miriam - My overall favorite on this list; it's classy, elegant, and very underrated nowadays (in my opinion!).Esme - I think that Esme sounds wonderful; not my first choice, but I could live with a daughter called Esme.Clementine - I don't like this name, due to the traditional "Clementine" song and food association.
