Surprising numbers of dogs, where I live anyway, are named Daisy. Which amuses me, because it's the nickname for my friend Desiree.

I’ve never heard Daisy as a nn for Desiree but I love the idea.
My friend went to a playschool/nursery school/kindergarten when she was about 4. There were trained teachers, and also working women who prepared meals, cleaned up, helped with toilet training ... no training required. And one of them had never heard the name Desiree, and the closest she could get was Daisy-Ray: that made sense to her, and my buddy tolerated it and it somehow stuck!
