Astra/Astraea
I am loving both of these names. I'm wondering how Astraea is correctly pronunced. I'd probably use Astraea for a middle name. Astra has just caught my attention. Its in the category of names I've recently grown to love. (Signy/Vara/Sigrid/Tancred/Aviva) Very unusual, but historical names. Does it match? What do you think of it? Also, is it better as a middle name or first name?Siri

I don't know Astraea's pron., but following the lines of other Greek names/words such as Phaedra FEE-dra, paedophile PEE-doh-fyle (unfortunate example I know), I'd be inclined to say a-STREE-a.It's too out there for me, personally. Astra is far more usable imo.

Thats kind of funny, I just suggested Astraea to Kellie a few posts below for an astronomy theme.I much prefer Astraea over Astra, I tend to pronounce it As-tree-uh, although I'm not sure if thats correct or not.I think it could work for either a first name or a middle name

I'm wondering about Astraea too, now. I've always said it ah-STRAY-ah, but now I'm curious as to whether that's right or not.Astraea's kind of like Leo to me. Astraea, the Goddess of Justice, became the constellation Virgo after she left the our mortal world. So I prefer the name only on a girl who's actually a Virgo, even though not many people know of Astraea's Virgo connection.I don't think of the car when I hear Astra, and I prefer it to Astraea for a non-Virgo child. I also think Astra fits better visually with your other female choices. I think it especially goes well with Signy and Sigrid in both sound and looks.Miranda

ROFL, it is too . . .I guess we couldn't use it here - it *is* very like the Strine for Australia!

I *love* Astra - unfortunately it's a well-known car brand here so I could never use it. WDYT of Aster or Asta?I think Astraea would be a-STRAY-a. It's nice but nms.I think they'd both probably be better as mns.:-)
