By far, I prefer Helene (pronounced heh-layn).

I don't care for either one, but if I had to choose, I'd go with Helena and nickname her Laine. Helena, at least, sounds prettier and a little more appealing to me.

That would depend on how you were pronouncing them.Is Helene- He-layne or Hel-eene?
Is Helena- Helen- a, He-layne-a or Hel-ee-na?I wouldn't use either, because I have had to live with a name with two legitimate pronounciations, and I can tell you it does get a bit tiring. But I would say either Helene prn. He-layne or Helena prn. Helen-a. Probably Helena is my favourite.

I love Helena, but only pronounced HEL ehn uh. The he LAY na pronunciation sounds too much like the tired, trendy and twee Alaina/ Alayna/ Elena to me. Helene, if I'm not mistaken, would be more correctly pronounced Ay LEHN or he LEHN; no long 'a' sound. As much as I am fond of Helena and Helene, I would avoid them for the same reason Antigone mentions. Inconsistent pronunciations all over the map. I think Helen is a beautiful name, though, and you wouldn't have the issues with pronunciation.

HelenaIt's my favorite female name, so no contest.

Personally, I prefer Helene, pronounced the French way. I think it sounds more attractive.
