I love Elizabeth and I love Effie, but Effie isn't related to Elizabeth and I don't see how it makes sense to be a nickname for Elizabeth. It isn't necessarily a nickname for anything, although sure seems like it ought to be. It could be short for Euphemia, Josephine, or Persephone. I've never actually met an Effie/Effy.
If we can figure out that it really does make sense for Effie to be a nn for Elizabeth, I will be very happy. It has to make sense though becuase I'm like that. :P

It makes sense as a childhood nickname because th's are hard to pronounce at a young age and usually come out as F's. "Elizabeff"-->Effy. That's my understanding of it. I like it a lot.
Oh!
I get it! I'm excited to ask DH if he likes Effie as a nn for Elizabeth. He'll probably say no. Not that he could stop me from using it if I had a daughter already named Elizabeth. :P

Yep, if Buffy can come from Elizabeth, I don't see a problem with Effie!
I'm not personally a fan of Effie as a nickname but I could definitely see it working (sounds kind of similar to Bethy as well...)
