I was looking at the list of Mayflower pilgrims and they had some unusual names other than the
Mary's and
John's.
For women there is
Constance,
Love, Remember, and Resolved. For men
Peregrine and Degory / Digory.
Constance isn't so unusual but I wanted to include it since it was the only other virtue name.
What do you think of these names?
I didn't even realize that Remember and Resolved were used as virtue names, my brain has a hard time accepting them as names. The other thing that struck me is how virtue names seem so puritan but also very hippy in my mind. If I didn't see where those names were from
Love, Remember, and Resolved my first reaction would be children named by hippy parents. Remembrance strikes me as a possible virtue name in between
Constance and Remember. I think Remember and Resolved are interesting virtues to impart to your daughters. I like
Constance and
Love but I have a hard time accepting Remember and Resolved as names.
I also wanted to add that I love
Peregrine as a name.
Will always make me think of the bird and of
Peregrine Took. Digory / Degory makes me think of
Cedric Diggory from
Harry Potter. Don't like it or dislike it.
EDITED: For women there is
Constance, Humility, and Remember. For men
Peregrine, Degory / Digory,
Love and Resolved.
