Re: Names on my mind (possible faves)
Greta - I've never been keen on using diminutives as a person's given name; e.g. naming a daughter Kate instead of Katherine (what if she grows up preferring "Kat" and doesn't like Kate? It would be difficult for her to officially "switch.") That's said, it's one of the better pet names for Margaret, but I've never been a fan of that name in general.Allegra - I would love it, if it weren't for the allergy medicine.Bera - Reminds me too much of bears.Cecile - I much prefer Cecily. It's still a rather princess-y name, but not nearly as... *whiny* as Cecile.Chantrea - I have no idea how it's pronounced in Khmer, but the pronunciation in my head is influenced by Chantal, so I read it as shan-tray-uh. While I find that sound pretty... if you head over to the comments on the name Linnaea / Linnea, you'll see the kind of comments this name could get behind your back.Corinna - I love it! It's in my personal favorites.Rowinna / Rowina / Rowena (which do you like as "ro-IN-uh" primarily, NOT a hard E") - For the pronunciation you seek (which I, too, prefer to ro-WEE-nuh), I think only Rowinna is really suggestive of it, since its spelling mirrors Corinna. I like it.Fauna - I've tried to like this name, but it just comes across as childlike.Maryvonne - I already don't really like "combination" names, but this one, imo, is kind of ridiculous.Masha - Doesn't feel like a real name to me. More like a little kid's nickname.Reed - Not too shabby... on a guy.Romy - (see Greta)Florine - Strikes me as the name of a chemical.Wendy - One of the few "diminutives" that can work as a real name, but it still doesn't look like an "adult" name to me. Other than Cecily, which I mentioned above, I'm not very big on names that end in an "ee" sound.Zareen - Not something I'd personally use, but it is cool.Vanya - This is a guy's nickname.
____________________________Jesse - Cool name. I can't picture a nerd being named this. Jesse needs a leather jacket, too, and shades. I mainly blame Uncle Jesse from Full House for this image. Jesse is pretty much the only name ending in "ee" that I can tolerate on a guy (while I like Reed, Reeve, and especially Rhys, those all have consonants at the end).Gordon - Commissioner Gordon is the first person I think of, even before Gordon Ramsay. This name is way too harsh for my tastes.Ansel - Not my style at all. Really, one of the only male names I like that ends in 'l' is Axel."EJ" - As initials there's nothing to protest. As a name in itself? No.Azel - I liked Ansel better, actually.Bence - I looked it up and discovered it's a legitimate Hungarian name, but in English this just looks like a nickname for Benson.Elior - I would totally use this for a character, but it's just a *little* too fancy for me to use on a real person. So I guess this makes it a GP. Anyway, it's going on my personal faves list.Hankin - Not my style. I already don't like Hank, and this is just -in added to it.Ogden - (see Gordon, except I can't recall any famous Ogdens off the top of my head)Cager - Like... a person who sticks people in cages???Zephyr - Total GP of mine.

Greta - is constantly on and off my short list. But I don't really care for Margaret and Greta has never seemed like that intuitive as a nn to me anyhow. Wdyt of Coretta? I actually loved that first but feel like Greta is roomier. Bera - what's wrong with bears?Chantrea - I say it like "shaun-TRAY-uh" and just love the meaning. Not everyone will like every name so "behind the back" stuff doesn't bother meWendy - interesting that you think this works on its own but Greta and Romy don't. Greta feels much more complete and "adult" to me. Vanya - I know its a dude name but just saw it on a girl on the show "child genius" (or "genius child" ...whatever) and thought it sounded nice. I'm one who like Vaughn on a girl so am always on the lookout for something similar and if not female, at least sort of more feminine sounding. EJ - would be a nickname :) I love a lot of "E" names for boys and the idea of honoring my FIL John. E______ John might become "EJ" every once in awhile. Just curious as to what people thought about those initialsHankin - I found while browsing names related to John- Which it is, believe it or not. Having never been a fan of Hank this one actually changed my mind. Cager - came from Cager Lee, a man featured in the movie Selma. I liked its sort of "antiquated occupation name" feel- like Booker - words turned name before there was a trend to direct it.
Thanks for the feedback!
