Bad initials?
Would bad initials turn you off using a name?I've realised that we came up with an amazing combo that is really meaningful to us.. but the initials spell ASSA :(Alfred Simeon Stewart (Arnold)Is that really terrible? :(
Stewart is after my grandfather Stewart but also my brother and fathers middle name.
Simeon is after my middle name Simone and my dad's nickname for me Simian (as in the monkey)Its such a good combo... but ASSA...

A.S.S. would be terrible, but I agree with the others that A.S.S.A. is fine.

I would say ASS was bad initials but I'm not particularly bothered by ASSA, I don't know how many people would notice. As someone with multiple middle names when I'm asked for my middle initial they usually only want the first one. So I am MaryOSurname on most documents instead of MaryOAASurname.

Who really knows people's full names anyway? Not many people, so don't worry about it. Since the combo means so much to you, I wouldn't let the initials deter you.

I'm quick to reject combos because bad initials and bad monograms, but ASSA wouldn't bother me. ASS, yes, but not ASSA. Anyway, ASSA it bothers him, he could just use AA or ASA.

Am I missing something? What's wrong with ASSA?As for initials, I don't care about them. We don't use them here, so I wouldn't care no matter what they spelled out. Is it really that important? Isn't it more important to use names that you like and that are meaningful to you guys?

I don't think I'd worry about it too much. Maybe if it were just Alfred Simeon Stewart, but I think the extra A in Arnold helps to soften the blow. Honestly, ASSA makes me think more of NASA than anything...else. I'd roll with it; it's a very handsome combo.

I have firsthand experience with this, because I would have liked to name our daughter Valerie Dawn, but the initials VD stopped me cold; I didn't even have to debate with myself over whether it was a big enough problem.Assa is definitely not a set of initials I'd want to carry, and I knew a guy in school whose initials were ASS, and don't think kids didn't find out and make the most of it. I don't even know what his middle name was, just that his first name was Aaron and his last name started with s. This was in elementary school so I never got to hear his full name at graduation, but somehow, and like I said, they made the most of it.
I'd lose one of those middle names. Better to be an Asa than an Assa.

ASSA is really not that bad... Like, really. If it was just plain ASS, then yeah, it would be unfortunate. How often is the child going to write their full initials as appose to just AA?And unless ASSA has a negative connotation where you are (other than ass with an a on the end), I wouldn't be put off using it.

For me, it depends on what they are. ASS, STD, VD, etc., aren't ideal to me. Re: ASSA, I'm not so sure how I feel that about one. I probably would avoid that, however, I will say that as a new parent, what you worry about and try to avoid may end up happening anyway. With dd #2 (Victoria Brooke), I at first wanted to name her Victoria Danielle yet our surname is Burns and she would have been V.D. Burns which I thought was absolutely horrifying, lol. Thing is, now that she's married, her surname begins with the letter D and she is now Victoria Brooke D---- so she's V.D. anyway! She chose this, btw. She could have used a hyphenated surname or gone by her mn as she has done most of her life yet she's largely going by Victoria now so I'm realizing that: (1) you never know what a child will want to call him/herself, and (2) some people just don't care about initials! Bottom line: Unless initials spell something overtly awful, most people won't care or even notice. Hope this helps. ;-)

Yes, bad initials would turn me off. We, unfortunately, won't use a first name that starts with P, since our last name starts with P and we could never justify P.P. for a child. It's sad to us, because we love Paulina and Priscilla. However, most people won't know that his initials are ASSA. If your last name started with an S, than I would pause because kids/people would be LOOKING for it to spell something bad if he starts with A and ends with S. However, I know plenty of people that have words as initials and they don't care (EAR, RIG, BIG, DOE, NOD, etc). *I like your combo.
Note: I love the name Simeon, it's my nephews name. However, they hate that it sounds like Simian... so it's surprising to see that you like the connection. Though, little Simzy is half Jamaican... so that may explain the distaste for monkey jokes.

Perhaps it's a way of making you think of using Wilfred instead of Alfred!

Yes, they would totally turn me off of a name. Sorry. In your case, the initials are not actually ASS though, they are ASSA. So I'm torn.

What's wrong with ASSA?If the full combo was ASS, I'd avoid it, but I don't think ASSA is a problem. I only notice the ASS part because I was looking for a potential problem, otherwise it never would have occurred to me.

I don't think it's terrible. Most people I know with two middle names only use the initial from the first. So it might just be ASA in use.ASSA isn't glaringly obvious. I think it'd be fine.

If it didn't have the A on the end, then yes, it would bother me. I also tend to think about monograms, which I guess doesn't apply to that name, unless you were to use AAS.
