I don't understand why she would not just call him
Rain. It's not like it's a gendered thing in English. Reign feels similar to "royalty" names, like
King or
Royal or
Prince or
Duke. Not my style, but probably something this young man can bear stylishly - probably more stylishly than he would bear
Rain, and without seeming to put on any airs.
I'm pleased that she didn't name him
Rein (pronounced rain).
I would have preferred
Rayner. But that's me.
