WDYT???????
I am writing a story about a family. They are consisting of:
Mother
Father
4 daughters
3 sonsDo these names work?Mother-Betheny
Father-Daniel
Twins (boy and girl): Ian and Alyssa
Boy: Ace
Girl: Asa
Girl: Kai
Boy: Luke
Girl: SpencerI was wondering if the girl names were too boyish, if the twins' names don't work as twin's names, and such. Please tell me if it works!

I think Ace and Asa are too close sounding to be brother and sister... The rest works okay. Kai could be a nn for Kairi or something though...

I'm getting a lot of that Ace and Asa stuff...

They go nicely. But what I would suggest\my issuesBetheny (Bethany please)Ace & Asa too similarAsa, Kai & Spencer are for a boy. It makes no sense to have those names for a girl especially considering that there's only 1 daughter who actually has a female name and the rest of her sisters are sporting boy names.
If I were reading this story, I'd honestly assume that "Alyssa" was the only daughter and that's not a good thing.

A lot of people think the same as you. I accidentally misspelled Bethany, but other than that, thanks for the advice!

A lot depends on the ages and setting. Are they in the modern age, the future, some time in the past? Do they live in America, England, Australia, Germany? Are the parents elderly or are they young parents?I'm just going to assume that this story takes place in modern day America, and that the parents are...mm, late thirties, shall we say?Betheny - Bethany could work for a mother. It's been steadily rising since the fifties; however, I don't think the spelling Betheny would work. I doubt many people were ever given the name with that spelling, and it might be stretching things to give a mother a trendily spelt name.Daniel - Good, solid name that can work on any age. Believable for a father.Ian & Alyssa - I think they work well as a twinset; however, the fact that Alyssa is the only girl without an overtly masculine name could cause confusion. It might be a struggle for readers to remember that it's 3 sons/4 daughters and not 6 sons/1 daughter.Ace - The other boys have very simple, common boy names, so Ace stands out a lot. Doesn't really go with the others.Asa - Too similar to Ace. If I were reading a story with an Ace and Asa sibset, I'd definitely have a hard time remembering who was who. Especially since Asa is a masculine name. Kai - Not very much to say on this one. It wouldn't be my pick, but it doesn't cause much confusion (except perhaps some gender confusion) and may work for the character.Luke - A solid choice that I could see coming from father Daniel and mother Bethany. Might have a hard time fitting in with some of his siblings' names, though. The styles are a bit conflicting.Spencer - See: Kai.
I also believe that names that kind of reflect your characters, and that the names of children should say something about the personality of the parents. Do these names do that for your characters?

Thank you for your feedback. I will change the names, but: THANK YOU!!!!!! You were the first person to give me positive feedback on "Luke".

Don't have a boy named Ace and a girl named Asa; they're way too similar. Asa is not a unisex name, it's all-boy. There's a difference between boys' names and unisex names, and there's actually fairly few truly unisex names. Riley and Jordan are definitely unisex; Spencer may have been used on occasion for girls, but it is a boys' name. More so with Asa, because it isn't a surname like the others.

Thanks. Ace and Asa will DEFINITELY be changed.

Ace and Asa are far too similar for siblings names. I would recommend changing either Ace or Asa to something else. Asa is typically a boys name, but a girl could pull it off.

Thank you, Constant! I think you're right, I should change Ace. It makes me cry

I'm sorry, I accidentally deleted your message for a few minutes. The twins' names work fine, but the rest of the kids don't fit with them at all.
Ian, Ace, and Luke seem unlikely as brothers. I could see Ian and Luke, maybe.
Asa, Kai, and Spencer as girl names would be very unusual, distractingly so in a fiction - but adding an Alyssa makes them seem positively bizarre.
Ace and Asa are too close for siblings.
I suggest:
Twins: Kai and Alexis
Boy: Ace
Girl: Asia or Lyla / Lyle / Lisle
Girl: Caden or Cassidy or Kennedy
Boy: Luke or Jake
Girl: Aspen or Sawyer

Asa, Kai and Spencer are traditionally boys names and don't really match the style Ian and Alyssa, imo. The spelling of Betheny (Bethany) bothers me as well. But I don't really feel qualified to whether they're any good. Some people do choose to name their children names that I don't think match. They choose names that I don't like. So it depends on what the characters in your story are like.

Oops, I just realized I misspelled Bethany! I meant Bethany, of course, with an A. Ian and Alyssa were kind of last minute, and I am consulting with my co-author what to change them to.

In my opinion, Ian and Alyssa sound great together. If this was me, I'd keep them. And sorry, everyone assumed that you must have spelled Betheny on purpose lol (:I like Alyssa, Ian and Luke. The rest I would changeAlyssa, Ian, Luke, Jace\Jake\jay\jayson? Ava, kyra, harper\ scarlet? (Not a fan of Harper myself but that's not to say for other people)

Yeah sorry about the Bethany thing. I'm not really a fan of Harper either...but the other suggestions are great!
