The names that got away
A pointless post, but I was just thinking about names I would have liked for our son, or our soon to arrive daughter. For whatever reason, they were off-limits or vetoed by spouse/relatives. Jasper - my aunt had a beautiful german shepherd named Jasper when I was young. I always loved the name (and the dog, even though he bit me once), but my mother wasn't thrilled about naming our son after a dog. Astor - aunt also had a german shepherd named Astor (Jasper's mother). Also loved the name...same objection. Stephane - Don't actually like the name but our son was born at 32 weeks. I looked up the inventor of the incubator and it was Dr. Stephane Tarnier. Thought it would be cool to honour a person responsible for so many preemie survivals, but the name didn't fly with anyone. Chloe - I love this name, but my sister had it lined up for a baby who was miscarriedXenophon (Xen) - A manager at work has this name. It is the coolest, most unique name that I have come across. But it would have been quite odd to borrow such a conspicuous name.
