OttoOtto is my father's middle name & my great-grandfather's first name. I plan to use it in the middle one day. I used to dislike it but I've warmed up to it because I can't use my dad's first name anymore (Thomas) because my OH's surname is Thompson. The more I thought about Otto, I really like it. It's quirky and cool. I know a couple guys named Paul, it's a nice name but seems a bit boring & dated to me.

Paul but I'm not crazy about either.Otto sounds like an old German man.

Paul. Otto means "eight" in my native language and I've always found it really unattractive.

Paul because it feels more timeless. Otto is great but I wouldn't name my child that because it seems like it is ready for a comeback in the USA, but that it just it-- It took a long break. Way longer than Paul. Paul is also short, easy to spell, underused right now and not trending. I don't like to be trendy so I wouldn't choose that if it were rising in popularity.

Paul. It just sounds better to me.

PaulI think it's neat and understated.I'm surprised at how many people are answering with Otto. I find it ridiculous. :)

PaulOtto is hideous and sounds like either an old man's name or a dog's name. Paul is handsome.

PaulBecause Otto is the often high bus driver from the Simpsons to me.

OttoBecause its adorableness outweighs the handsomeness of Paul for me.

Otto. With gritted teeth I say Otto, because although I don't like it, Paul is one of my most hated. Paul has the added negative of being boring.

Paul!Paul is classy but still young.Otto sounds plain old. Sorry, my explanation from Iris/Mira is repeating itself, but I can't help it.

PaulI like both, but Paul's got history in my big Catholic family I can't ignore. :)

OK: Otto has an air of low comedy about it and I've always thought of it as an excellent name for the kind of Old English Sheepdog that could be facing either way until it settles the argument by moving. (Its mate would of course be Anna.) And it's better known as a ln where I live.Paul is one of my favourite names for its classic simplicity and sheer staying power. I'm no fan of the saint, but in changing his name from Saul to Paul he did a very good job indeed. My BIL was almost Paul rather than Roy and I sometimes feel he was short-changed.That said, I don't like Pauline at all, or Paulette or Paula.

In theory, Paul. But it sounds really bad when I say it and there are several possible pronunciations where I live and none sound good so Otto it is. Not really a fan of Otto but at least it won't cause confusion on how to say or spell it.

Otto...Because it's different, it has personality, not like poor old stale Paul.

PaulFor so many reasons. It was my father's first name, it's my son's middle name, so it has a lot of personal meaning to me. Apart from that it's a classic name with tons of history. I don't find it boring at all.
Otto souns dorky, not in a good way. And I always think of Bismarck when I hear this name. It's very German to me. It makes me think of a fat, uneducated German guy.

Paul because it is just more familiar and seems real. It's a smart name.
Otto seems very cool, but too mascot-y to me. I had a cat Otto.

Paul...Sound wise I like them the same, but Paul has some better namesakes.
