Lavinia
I think about this name a lot, and I am back and forth on it; I can't decide if it's over-the-top or just enough. I am not sure if it's stylish or a faded Victorian relic. What is your opinion? Would you use it as a first name or only a middle name? Would you prefer never to use it as long as you live? If you have an optimal combo that you love/like that uses Lavinia, what is it?

Meant to add that I love the nn Vinny!

It's alright, I prefer Linnea though. It would make a nice middle name, or, as a first name, an interesting alternative to Olivia.

I adore it! Its baroque majesty deserves to coruscate in the primary slot; in other words, no one puts Lavinia in a corner. Some optimal combos:Lavinia Hester
Lavinia Rosemary
Lavinia Judith
Lavinia Constance

It would be pretty, but reminds me too much of the word "lavatory", especially with the nn Lavvy. I feel the same way about Lavender.

I like it, but not enough to use it.

I really like it, but I'd be worried about it being shortened to Lav (a word some people here use to mean toilet, short for lavatory). I feel the same way about Lavender.Lavinia Hazel
Lavinia Susan
Charlotte Lavinia
Emily Lavinia

I know one person named Lavinia: professional, early 50s. She's a credit to the name for sure. Having said that, I don't particularly find it to be attractive in the slightest. The 'vini' sound doesn't sound attractive to me. I do think Lavinia would make a nice flowing mn.

I love it! I'd use it as a first. I'm liking Lavinia Violet.

I love Lavinia and I don't think it's over the top. I knew a girl named Lavinia when I was in college.I'd hesitate to use it as a first name, however, because I wouldn't want her to be called Vinnie. I don't recall that the Lavinia I knew was ever called Vinnie, but still, I believe that a first name should not be used if any nicknames for it are disliked. It's always a possibility. There are people who insist on calling others by nicknames. It's definitely not stylish, but whether or not you'd call it faded or a relic would be a matter of opinion and not fact. Both of those adjectives are negative. Neither one comes to my mind when I think of the name Lavinia. I think elegant and vintage.I would definitely consider it as a middle name, but probably only with a one syllable first name.
