Michael doesn't have to be Mike. I have a friend named Michael and he *hates* being called Mike and always makes it clear that he's just Michael. People listen to him because, well, most people are respectfull
It also makes me think of my own name. Cayden doesn't have to be Cady or Cay. I've always really disliked being called Cady / Cay and have started going by my full first name, and it's honestly been liberating.
