I like Patrick a lot, and I like Pat as a nickname. If I moved to Quebec I might consider Patrice.

I have a coworker named Padraigh, and nobody ever pronounces or spells it right. Our bosses are particularly self-centered. They call him Patrick because that’s “close enough” and act like he should be grateful to be addressed at all.My best friend’s name is Patrick. I love the name, but I wouldn’t give it to my own child. My husband knows I’m not sleeping with him and never would, but I’ve had to deal with a lot of snide comments from other people over the years over having a straight male best friend. If I named a son after him those people would have a gossipy heyday. I know I should just say screw those people, but I can’t.

If I ever have a son, I would consider using the name Patrick nn Pat. My dad had a buddy named Pat, and from what I remember, he was really nice.Patrick would also be an indirect way of honoring my grandpa, who was named Richard. Also, my hometown makes a big deal out of St. Patrick's Day, so it's a way to remember where I came from. And, not to mention, I love the show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which takes place in Paddy's Pub.

I love it, but like the way Padraic looks more. I don't really like Paddy, but I do like Pat. I wanted to name my first son Patrick, but a few months before he was born realized it wasn't the right fit.
