I like it a lot.

Damien is probably the only one of these names where I prefer the (French) -ien ending to the -ian one. But Damian is also cool - better than a lot of people give it credit for, and unfairly tarnished by movie associations ("The Omen" and "The Exorcist").

I like it. I suggest not letting it get to you if people mention the Omen, though. It’s a strong association for many. If you’re going to get upset at the suggestion, it might be wise to choose something different.

I prefer the spelling Damien. It's strong, yet ages well.

It’s a handsome name.

I really like it. The meaning "tamer" or "soother" is calming and reminds me of tension tamer tea blends that are supposed to relieve stress. The sound is modern, but the name is not over used. There were several saints or Christian figures named Damian, and it also reminds me of Damian Wayne (Batman's son) and Damian McGinty (an Irish singer). Regretfully a few people I know associate it with the horror film. Both a family member and a co-worker/friend automatically thought of the "Omen" when I mentioned Damian in the past. I've never watched the "Omen," but it is significant that a certain age group seems to automatically be reminded of the movie.

It's one of those names that's just there. I don't have any strong associations, I've only met a couple over the years, I don't like it enough to use myself, but I wouldn't have a strong reaction to it one way or another if I heard someone else use it.

I don't like it much, it sounds weak and pretentious to me.

I really like Damian. I have never seen The Omen and I've met a number of Damian's so it's not a problem.

The Omen.

the film was 30 yrs ago. isn't the reference a bit silly?

You asked what we really thought, and that movie is the one and only association I have with the name Damian. It wasn't a commentary on whether anyone should use the name, it's just what I personally think of.Besides, Gone with the Wind is old, but Scarlett still makes me think of Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara.

I would understand it if it was a super rare name or created for the character. For example, Reneesmee will always be a Twilight character even if it was made a hundred years ago.I did a Google search for Damian and The Omen isn't even on the first page!

The spelling used for "The Omen" is Damien. That's probably why it didn't come up in a Google search.

It wasn't a personal attack. That's just my association with the name. It probably helps that it sounds similar to "demon" (reinforcing the "Omen" image) and that I haven't ever met anyone named Damian. Anyway, what I happen to "really think" of the name doesn't have to be related to what comes up on Google.
