Phoebe
has been on my mind again lately :) What do you think of Phoebe? What do you associate it with and how do you imagine a Phoebe?

I love the name Phoebe, it’s actually a fave of mine and a name my DH also really likes! This is a rare phenomenon when it comes to girl names for us! I don’t get a ditzy vibe from it. Friends of ours have a little girl called Phoebe, so I probably wouldn’t end up using it.

I'm sorry but this is a name I just can't stand. It's the sound of it.

For some reason I imagine a little bird, similar to a chickadee, whose call sounds like “Fee! Bee! Fee-bee!”It’s one of those rare names that rides the line between cute and substantive. Some days I think it does both fairly well, and on other days, neither. It seems to depend on my mood. I missed the whole Friends phenomenon, so I actually think of the character from the original Charmed. Although the character evolved, the writers originally seemed to intend for her to be flighty and untethered, which I understand also describes the Friends girl, so you can’t ignore that vibe.

It really gets on my nerves (though there are plenty of worse names out there). It sounds so whiny to me. I always read it in a whiny voice, like "feeeeee-beee" which is dangerously close to "feeeeed meeee!"

I honestly don’t like it that much, but one of my coworkers has a daughter named Phoebe. She’s a very nice girl. It also makes me think of Friends (even though I didn’t watch that show that much).

I've never liked it. I just find the sound so silly and unattractive. FEE-bee. I imagine a Phoebe ditzy with thick short curly dark hair.

I think it's a pretty nice name. Not one you often hear about.
The associations that I have with it, and not in any particular order, are the following:¤ Phoebe Buffet from F.R.I.E.N.D.S (Like come on, who doesn't think of her?) *laughs*
¤ A cat our family used to have (Knew the cat for years before, belonged to a previous owner, but by the time we got her, she was already really old so we had her with us for maybe 2 years until her passing. She was very affectionate but my god did she demand for her food, oh boy let me tell you.
¤ one of my main characters in my trilogy series I've been devoted to for a number of years. Her name when I first started out with the storyline was 'Margaret' but then I decided against it. Figured that 'Phoebe' was more "age appropriate" and more "realistic" for the character. I'm glad I changed her name. I think it suits her well. (:

I think it sounds very pretty and light, and I imagine an Arcadian shepherdess in Ancient Greece.

I think of sunlight and pastel pink and limestone. I like how it can seemingly balance out heavier names, add classicism to modern names, and mesh with both conventional and eccentric names.Phoebe is airy but not undignified.

I like it a lot. It sounds innocent and simple, but I like it. I would have considered using it, but unfortunately it loses its character in my native language.

I've always thought that the Friends character was very aptly named. It's just a silly, twittery, ditzy name. Bird-brained. I know it's classical Greek and not a weirdly-spelled imitation of a bird's call, but it just seems perfect for a bird or a dim-witted person like Phoebe Buffet.

I actually know one! She's sixteen, fair skin, dark hair, lively eyes and beautiful features, and is very talented at Art, as well as being an A student in English, Maths, whatever ... her mother has health issues so she's also pretty much the adult in the house, which is worrying but so far she's coping wonderfully well. And, as admirable and nice as she is, she hasn't entirely turned me on to her name. Feeb, as in 'feeble'? Not good. I wouldn't use it. Oh, and her mn is Lyra, after the Philip Pullman character! Wouldn't use that either. Perhaps I'm just fussy.
