Love Omar!

I love Omar. It's a great name with lots of history. One of my teachers had a son named Omar, his other son was Adam.

It's important to note that Islam; Judaism, and Christianity are offshoots of each other, referred to as Abrahamic. Abraham was the father of Judaism. He had two sons - Isaac and Ishmael. Isaac was the father of Christianity and Ishmael the father of Islam.

Have you seen The Wire? Omar is an iconic character. Kind of a Robin Hood type.

Of course it could work for a non-Muslim. Omar Bradley, the famous World War II general, was a Christian.

Is the -r sounded? I imagine it must be, which is a good thing: without sounding the -r, Oma sounds like the Afrikaans word for 'grandmother' - ouma, literally Old Ma.

I love this name. I think it's so handsome.

It is favoured by certain cultural groups, but it could work on anyone. I knew a white French Canadian called Omar.

What is now Spain had a long history of Muslim rule, so that could be the connection to the name.

I don't know why but I really hate the -ar ending in Omar and Oscar. It doesn't help that I grew up with a lot of dumb cholos with those names 😮‍💨

I've encountered folks named Omar of a variety of backgrounds, so I can't speak to appropriateness outside certain cultural contexts.

Beyond that, I think it's a fine name. I don't love it, but I don't dislike it.

It’s just about my favorite boys name. Perfect sound and I love the multiple origins. There are millions of Omars in the world, I don’t think any particular association is determinative, let along to a terrorist (???).
