Masculine or Feminine?
Do these names feel more masculine or feminine to you? Or just plain neutral? These are the only names in the top 300 used for boys and girls. I've been messing around with the new SSN released data and by my math they are ordered from most to least gender neutral usage (with some ties)Blake
Charlie
Tatum
Rory
Emerson
Parker
Amari
River
Sawyer
Riley
Rowan
Avery

Replies

Blake - Male, also it is terrible for girl.
Charlie - Unisex, Maybe as a nickname for Charles or Charlotte, also maybe as a full name for boy.
Tatum - Neither. Not a fan.
Rory - Neither, Not a fan.
Emerson - Strictly male.
Parker - Male, it's awful for a girl tho.
Amari - Neither, I'm not a fan.
River - Neither, I dislike it for a person, also it is alright for pets.
Sawyer - Neither, I dislike it as a name for boy also it is terrible for a girl.
Riley - Male, alright for boy, I'm not a fan for a girl.
Rowan - Male only, also I prefer Rowena for a girl.
Avery - Neither, I dislike it as a name for both gender.
Blake - boy
Charlie - if it's just Charlie and not a nickname for anything, I'd want to say boy, but I think it would more likely be a girl.
Tatum - boy
Rory - could be either, but I'd probably think boy first if it's not a nickname
Emerson - I like it on a girl and actually would probably assume it was a girl first, but wouldn't be surprised if it was a boy.
Parker - boy

Blake - I hate it either way but it’s a million times worse on a girl
Charlie - gender neutral
Tatum - gender neutral
Rory - gender neutral
Emerson - gender neutral
Parker - gender neutral
Amari - feminine
River - gender neutral
Sawyer - neutral I guess
Riley - neutral
Rowan - neutral but I vastly prefer for a boy
Avery - masculine
Blake - Neutral
Charlie - Feminine if a young person, masculine on older person
Tatum - I even know a girl with this name, but still think masculine

Emerson - feminine
Parker -masculine
Amari - feminine
River -hippy girl

Blake - 100% masculine. Very rough and harsh sounding. I don't see the appeal on girls.
Charlie - Neutral as a nickname for Charles or Charlotte; male as a given name.
Tatum - I've only met a feminine Tatum but I actually prefer it as a male name.
Rory - Better on boys but can work on either because of Gilmore Girls.
Emerson - I've seen it on both, but I prefer it on boys.
Parker - Masculine all the way. I do not like this for girls.
Amari - Leans feminine for me, but it works very well on both.
River - It's a word name so it's gender neutral. I prefer it on boys, though.
Sawyer - 100% masculine to me. Another name I don't see appealing on girls.
Riley - I prefer it on boys, but it's not awful on girls.
Rowan - 100% gender neutral for me; love it on both!!
Avery - Prefer on girls but not opposed to it on boys.

Blake - Male. I would be perhaps less apprehensive about this one on a girl except for the fact that there's a woman who is a conservative influencer that I find deeply annoying named Blake. So.Charlie - As a nickname, either. As a given name, neither.Tatum - Definitely associate this one with girls.Rory - The premise of this as a given name for a girl is... blech.Emerson - I actually think of this as a male name but have encountered it on far more women.Parker - Male if I have to choose either. I don't like Parker as a given name.Amari - I heard it on a boy first. I dislike it on both, but associate it with men first.River - Ew. As a name.Sawyer - Definitely associate it with guys. As a girl's name? Yikes.Riley - I've heard it on both.Rowan - I dislike it on a girl, but I do think of it more as a girl's name.Avery - I dislike it on a girl, but I am inclined to think of it more as a girl's name, even though I like it better on a boy.
Blake- masculine
Charlie- masculine
Tatum- masculine
Parker- masculine
Rory- masculine
Emerson- masculine
Amari- not sure
River- masculine
Sawyer- masculine
Riley- masculine
Rowan- masculine
Avery- masculine but I understand it's gender neutral All in all Id say most of these names are masculine.
