Kevin is the male Karen?
I head some kids talking today about that Kevin is the male version of Karen? Is this true?

Replies

I think the noun “Karen” is already gender-neutral and doesn’t need a male version. Male Karens are just male Karens.
Kevin is the "male Karen" in many countries in western Europe, especially France and Germany, because it was extremely popular in those countries 20 to 30 years ago, but like many newly popular "foreign" names in any society, it was much more popular with working class or poor parents than with educated ones, and developed a stereotype as a an uneducated, clueless, or troublemaking young man. I don't think very many people in English speaking countries have that negative image of Kevin, however. It's just "out of style" and now "older", more so in the UK than the USA.

It's a shame these names get a stigma because of stupid internet memes. I can't imagine how the poor people named Karen are feeling. They probably want a name change. I think Justina is right, we don't really need more stereotypes.
I think what inet uses is "Kevin" or "Kyle" but I think it is better if you do not follow inet trends (I "live under a rock" and I may be wrong)
It's probably an American thing.
In a word, no.
Ugh, is a thing we're actually doing?
Do we need more stereotypes?
I feel badly for all the nice Karens and Kevins out there.
The stigma against Kevin appears to pre-date Karen in countries like Germany and France, where it's seen as low class, but other countries are picking it up now it seems.
In Spain too. Here, Kevin was considered a low-class name during the 90s and 2000s. Fortunately, that stereotype seems to be over.
I wonder, is Brayan (Brian) getting the same treatment now over there? I hear people make fun of all the Brayans in Mexico all the time, but I don't know if it's at the level of Kevin in notoriety yet.
I think Brayan is more notorious than Kevin here, although it doesn't compare to Mexico's notoriety. I've seen plenty of "El Brayan" memes hailing from Mexico. The feminine counterpart in those memes is either Brittany or Kimberly.
Oof, yeah. The internet certainly helped spread that around fast.
Actually, someone told me it was Norman.
Similar in that they both have negative meanings, but a Kevin is more like a bumbling idiot than a public nuisance.
They're confused. A Kevin is not a Karen. A Kevin is a lovable but incompetent coworker or employee. Like the sort of person who makes you wonder how they survive in life.
Yes. Whatever random kids say is always true.
I mean is it sticking like Karen?
I don't know what you mean by "sticking". And second of all, Kirke was being sarcastic.
