I really like Ari, which can also be spelled Arye or Arie. It means lion. I think its a nice name and wouldn't look for any long forms.Asa seems old mannish to me.

I like both in full, for boys only of course. The mn shouldn't be too long imo (i.e., Christopher), otherwise the whole combo looks very unbalanced to me.Ari lends itself to many full names, though, both fem and masc:
Aras
Areli
Ariel
Aries
Ares
Aristotle
Ariston
Hari
Ilari
Ilmari
Jalmari
Jari
Kari
Makari
Oskari
Pietari
SakariAraminta
Arabella
Araceli / Aracely
Aracelis
Aretha
Arethusa
Ariela / Ariella
Arielle
Aria
Ariadne
Ariadna
Ariana
Arianna
Ariane
Arianne
Arienne
Arisha
Arista
Arisu
Cari
Hikari
Kari
Kumari
Mari
Pari
Sari
SáriAsa's much harder, but here are a few ideas:
As'ad (Asad)
Asad
Asaph / AsafMiranda

In my opinion Ari (ah-ri) could be a nn for Aryeh (ah-ryeh, "eh" like men, pet) or Ariel (ah-ryel). Ari can also be a nn for Yehudah (totally Jewish concept, Yehudah was compared to a lion in the Bible, so that's why).Although Ari is rather common, I don't know anyone named Asa (ah-sa, not ay-sa). Strange. The Biblical person isn't a negative one though, contrary to many names that are not used (like Jezebel, Dathan, Aviram...). Check: http://www.aboutbibleprophecy.com/p7.htm

It could be a nn for Asaf (ah-sahf) or maybe Asher (ah-sher, "e" like men).

I love Asa. Names it could be used as a nn for are Amasa (pr. a-Moss-a), Asaf / Asaph, or (though it's a stretch) Absalom. I think Ari would make a good nn for Ariel.
