One of my all-time favorite British cars is the legendary Mini. Originally designed by Sir Alec Isigonis, an English-Greek in 1956, the Mini is now being revamped and re-released (controversially, by BMW). Although the car never quite made it in the US, in Europe it was every bit at revolutionary as the Ford model T or the VW Beetle. For more info on the Mini, check out http://www.miniusa.com.
Now about what's behind Sir Alec Isigonis: the name Isogonis is derived from "Isis" and "gone" (Greek, meaning "child/descendant"), hence the name means "child of Isis". Related names include the femate version Isigeneia, as well as Isidore(M/F), Isidora(F), Isidotos(M)/Isidote(F) ("given to Isis"), Isicrates(M)/Isicrate (F) ("he who holds Isis"), Isitychos(M) ("luck of Isis" -- from "tyche"), Isidike (F) (justice of Isis - from "dike")Isiphilos(M) ("friend of Isis")-- I wouldnt recomment the latter for a child, for the name sounds like syphilis.
