What does Elaina mean and why isn't it listed in the database?
I like the name Elaina (ee lay na) and it is the name we have actually settled on for the little girl I am due to have in a few months. I have had a difficult time finding information on it - originally I thought the name was spelled Elena - but after researching it it seems that that spelling is pronounced either with a J sound in front the Russion version or (ee Lena). Can you help me out????

American, rather than English. With all their eccentricities, the English tend to be slightly more knowledgeable about French than their cousins across the pond.
From where I sit, firmly in South Africa, Elaina looks like a hilarious spelling mistake. But I'm sure your daughter will like it.

As far as I know, Elaina is a phonetic spelling of Elena or either a variation of Elaine. Both are forms of Helene (Helen). As a matter of fact, Elena is the Spanish, Italian, Russian, Romanian and Macedonian cognate of Helen. There is no one correct pronunciation either. In Russian: ye-LEN-a; in Italian: eh-LAY-na; in Spanish: eh-LAY-na/eh-LEN-a (regional differences); in Greek: EL-len-a. I pronounce my name eh-LAY-na. Most people I've encountered (by far) pronounce it the same way. I've never really had a problem with it. Hope this helps. Your daughter will love her name just as much as I love mine!
Elaina (my daughter's name - I love it too!), is of
French origin and is a variation of Elaine. It means
"bright light". I pronounce it eh-Lay-na, although there
are some that will say ee-Lay-na. Hope this helps...
