Nathalie
What is the "correct" pronunciation of Nathalie in English speaking coutries? I know the site says Nathalie is French and pronounced na-ta-LEE, but it also gives that pronunciation for Natalie which we (Americans) say as NA-ta-lee. Does that mean that Nathalie can also be "correctly" pronounced as NA-ta-lee?Thanks,
Melissa

I'm not authority on the subject, firstly.
My friend Nathalie, born in France, raised around the world, pronounces it Na-tha-lee.

Yes.
In general terms, people choosing French spellings in English speaking locations do so for the French pronunciation. I'm thinking recent French descendants anywhere or long-established ones, such as in Louisiana.Of course, there are always those who will do whatever they want...

In Britain we pronounce the name Anthony as AN-ton-ee and I'm sure Nathalie would be pronounced in the same way. I can't really comment about pronounciation in America but English speakers often use the French pronounciation of name - but maybe it's a European thing : ) .I see no reason why you should pronounce the 'h' in Nathalie unless you want to.

RosannaB is right for the "h" in Nathalie. In both names Anthony and Nathalie, the letter "h" is added later by some confusion, I think.Nathalie originates from Natale, meaning Christmas.
