The new president of Bolivia is named Evo Morales. Never seen the name Evo before, I suppose it is Spanish. But is Evo a male form of Eva, a variant of Evan (Ivan) or of Yves?

Evo is a male version of Eva. It is very odd, more or less as other male versions of feminine names: Susano, Ano (cited by Josep M. Albaigés and found by me in a register names list from Panama, I think), Cristino, Mónico, etc.

The Spanish version of Yves is Ivo.

Well Ivo Yvo and Ives are existing names maybe Evo is just another variation
