Does anyone know the origin of the feminine name Isamar?
It seems to have been used in the Spanish-speaking world because of a Venezuelan telenovela, La Revancha (1989), which had a character named Isamar Medina. This seems to have been a pseudonym taken by the character - her original name was Mariana Torrealba.

It also made a brief appearance in the US Top 1000, no doubt being used among the Spanish-speaking population.
I've never watched the series, so I don't know if the origin of the name was explained in it. Could it be a combination of Isabel and Mariana?

Technically, it's a combination of Isabel and Maria. In Spain it would probably be heard more as a nickname, but in Latin American countries name fusions like Isamar are encountered as given names. It's found in Brazil as well. (I happen to be from Brazil.)
(Mariana is related to Maria, though - it's a fusion of Maria and Ana.)
