Can a woman be a junior? I was watching a television show about the Salem Witch Trials and there was a mother and daughter both named Ann Putnam. The daughter was referred to as Ann Putnam, Jr. Would that be historically correct? I’m curious if there is a legitimate reason why Junior was used as opposed to just calling her The Younger Ann Putnam or Young Ann Putnam.

You can do whatever you want, but historically, I dont know.

I'm not too sure either. I would seem weird because once a woman got married her name would change and she wouldnt be junior anymore. I would assume The younger/elder naming would make more sense.

I've seen this once or twice - one example was Australia's WWII Prime Minister, John Curtin. He and his wife Elsie had two children, also called John and Elsie (couldn't they have been Jack and Beth?! *shakes head*). Anyway, in contemporary documents the daughter is occasionally referred to as Elsie Junior, before she married. So I guess it's not common but not unknown either.
