When death overtook Emperor Ramses, Nayah withdrew from Aditi, causing a huge rift between the two. Heartbroken and hurt, Aditi ran, leaving her husband and her lover and her children behind at Godshill, instead taking up with the Emperor and Empress of Loxias, a country far from the rural area surrounding Godshill.
Aditi's absence has brought an unwitting chaos to Godshill manor and its occupants. Nayah took up a new lover, bringing a child into this world with him, which has incited much jealousy in her older children. Caught between her much older sister and her new baby sister, Aruna wanders aimlessly through the manor. Naeem and Gwydion struggle to raise six kids without mothers while watching Amina and Raen start families of their own and squabble with each other over whose family gets what now that most of the women of the house are gone.
By nightfall, exhaustion reigns easily over the manor, a time when Naeem can finally take some time to himself with all the kids and all their lovers, including his own, asleep. Peace, at last.
