Grynir Maldinack is a dwarf raised in the Crystal Caves of Delg Ravn with thirteen siblings and a talent for keeping them out of trouble. When his parents died in a mining accident, Grynir and his older sister became the providers for the family. One day, one of their young brothers became extremely sick with an incurable disease. Grynir nursed him throughout his illness, prayed to the deity of good health, and even sacrificed two fingers of his own left hand in an attempt to save his brother. At last, the deity noticed and rewarded Grynir's dedication by restoring his brother to full health and blessing Grynir with the powers of healing and the responsibility of preserving life whenever possible. However, the cost was that Grynir would take on the phantom pain and suffering of everyone he healed. Overwhelmed by the demands of his fellow dwarves to cure their every ailment at his own expense, Grynir fled the community and now roams the lands, never staying in one place for too long, hoping that no one will discover his power. He takes mercenary work and sends a hefty portion of his earnings home to his siblings.
