If I pretend never to have met a Nick or Nikki, I like Nicholas and Nikolai.
But I've always disliked Cole, Nicole, Nicolette. They sound metallic and cold to me...maybe if I lived somewhere that nickels and coal didn't exist, that wouldn't be the case. Nicola seems a bit warmer. Or maybe I just dislike Nicole in American accents, since it seems nicer to me in French, but I'm American, so...
