I prefer it on a girl to a boy, actually. When I was about 7 there was an older girl in my Brownies group called
Julianne (it was probably Julie-Anne, actually, but never mind) and I always thought it was
Julian, so I was quite surprised when I found out that it was actually a male name. That's probably the reason why it's always seemed too feminine to me.
