It's a fine name but in my opinion, sounds rather unfriendly and rough. I prefer something like Alex.
This has a super meaning but the name itself still has to grow on me.
Exotic but really cool.

I love how every one is saying that they think Axel sounds like a name a super macho tough guy would have, but the only Axel I know is skinny, wears glasses, and does ballet.
It sounds mechanical.
It’s weird and interesting but I don’t like it that much.
I love names with x, so I obviously adore this one too.
Saw a video with the name Axel in it, and someone in the comments thought they were saying the a-hole word.

Axel sounds like oksel (oxel), which is Dutch for armpit.
I think Axel is a weird name.
This name is very common in Sweden. What first comes to my mind is a boy who started smoking at 12, thinks "gay" is an insult and is a European "nationalist". A trashy name, in my opinion. Boring, overused, stupid.
This is such a nice, simple name.

Sounds like one of those uber masculine, macho names.
Axel is a wonderful sounding name for a child or adult and it's strong with some interesting European flavor to it. It's a powerful human male name denoting both brains and brawn in my opinion.
This was one of my dog's names when I was a baby. And that's what it is, a dog name. Axel sounds ugly and weird on a human.
Axel Rodrigues de Arruda, commonly known simply as Axel is a Brazilian manager and former football player.Axel previously played for Santos Futebol Clube, São Paulo Futebol Clube, Clube Atlético Paranaense, Sport Club do Recife, Paraná Clube and Figueirense Futebol Clube in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Axel Wilhelm Eriksson was a Swedish ornithologist, settler and trader in what is now Namibia. He was born in Vänersborg, in Sweden.Eriksson went to South-West Africa in 1866 (before Germany had established its colony of German South-West Africa in 1884) to serve out a three-year apprenticeship to Charles John Andersson. In 1871, with Swede Anders Ohlsson, he established a brewery at Omaruru. Eriksson established a trading post there, which flourished and by 1878 employed about forty whites. Eriksson's business was based upon long-distance trading between southern Angola and Cape Colony, which necessitated the establishment of regional trade routes. He also built up an extensive bird collection, specimens coming from South-West Africa, Angola and the Transvaal (now Gauteng Province in South Africa), the bulk of which has since been donated to the municipal museum in Vänersborg.
Axel Brauns is a German writer and filmmaker.
Really loved this name until I heard a comment that I can't shake. When little kids try to say the name Axel, it sounds a lot like "a$%hole"... not sure I can go with this name anymore. I'm just thinking about yelling that name out loud across a playground.
We chose this name for our son as it has been handed down through the Norwegian side of my husband's family. We chose the pronunciation /AHK-sel/ in part to differentiate from the legacy of Axl Rose. I love that its meaning bears variations of "peace," and our son is a reconciler at heart. It has the sound of both strength and wisdom, and as our son has an uncompromising yearning for justice, it suits him.
As a huge Kingdom Hearts fan I'll say Axel wasn't a bad guy, as for the meaning it means Peace of God in almost all languages.
Axe murderer comes to mind...yikes. A harsh and unpleasant name in my opinion.
I love my name.
I researched this name in 2007, I learned everything I could for a son. I thought it sounded strong, with a little hint of sports to it and short enough for him to learn how to write it. He's now 7 yrs old. Advanced in class a very dedicated soccer player and I know I made the right choice for his name. I was still in planning stages for his conception. I picked out both boy and girl names. That's how much my son's names mean to me.
I've decided I now love this name! It's handsome, sexy, cute and so underused in my opinion! =)
Axel Blaze (also known as Gouenji Shuuya) is a character in Inazuma Eleven.
I have to admit, the first time I had heard of this name was from the game Streets of Rage (which is awesome, I must say!) so that's basically what I immediately think of whenever I hear this name.
I'm American and love this name for a guy. I think it sounds European, but also has a good sound in American English too (I'm from the North East). I think visually the X looks very cool in a name. Nice, a little different (not too different), masculine sounding name. I think it could be a great name if your son is an athlete.
Axel Christofer Hedfors is the birth name of Swedish DJ Axwell.
I like the French pronunciation. In the US the pronunciation is kind of ugly, so I might end up spelling it "Accel" just so people would pronounce it right. Then they'd probably pronounce it "Akkul"...
Axel Stone was a playable character in Streets of Rage for the Sega Genesis.
Axel Foley is the protagonist of the "Beverley Hills Cop" film series, played by Eddie Murphy. "Axel F" is the name of the films' theme music, composed and performed by Harold Faltermeyer.Axel is a total badass name.

Axel Lee McElhenney, son of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia actors Rob McElhenney and Kaitlin Olson.
I was given this name by my parents, and I hated them for it, I got ridiculed endlessly, my advice, give your child a normal name.
I first heard this name from the Kingdonm Hearts series. After learning more about it, I've grown to like it even more. Although I will always associate it with fire.
It's a very masculine and strong name, and you can also use Axl as a variant.
Pronounced AHK-sel in German. [noted -ed]
Axel is the name of a bad guy in Kingdom hearts. He is part of a group called Organization 13. He is my favorite organization member. Axel is a nobody, which means that he has no heart. Axel's weapon is fire, so I'm guessing that his name meaning has to do with fire or ashes or something.
What I like about the organization 13's names is they're all anagrams of their original names with an added x. For example, Axel's former name was Lea. Barely male, but when I try that out, the names end up illegible. Kudos to the creators!
This name sounds cool despite being part of a car.
Axel was the name of the main character in Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Count Axel Ferson was believed to be Queen Marie Antoinette of France's lover.
This is a semi-popular name in France. When I asked my husband, who is French, what he thought of when he heard this name, instead of saying, "truck parts", he got kinda' quiet and softly said, "Angels". Neat. If you're looking for a REAL French name, this is a winner. Just remember, in French, the pronunciation has the stress on the second syllable, not the first as in English. It ends-up sounding like the the word, "excel" with a soft "a" at the beginning or like the first two syllables of the word, "accelerate". This changes the whole feel of the name.
This is one of my favorite names. It's short and simple, not too common, and very masculine.
For some reason I really like this name. I don't much like Axl Rose so that can't be it. Maybe I like the "ax" part, very masculine.

Axel Rose is a member of the rock group "Guns N Roses."
Axl Rose is the spelling of the Gun N Roses member (like this, without the 'e'). It is an anagram - I don't think I can put what it is an anagram of on this site.
I'm Danish so I can tell that Axel is a very common name in Denmark.
"Axel" means shoulder in Swedish, and could symbolize strength.
