Derived from Slavic elements borti meaning "to fight" combined with vojĭ meaning "warrior, soldier". Bořivoj (or Borzywoj) I of Bohemia was the first historically documented Duke of Bohemia (c. 852–c. 889) and a member of the Přemyslid dynasty.
