Pathethic...
I named my son Coby by mistake when I misheard the pronunciation. It should have been Colby as my mother suggested but, I registered him as Coby and decided I liked it anyway. This was in the U.K. in 1993. I cannot find out whether this was the first time the name ‘Coby’ was registered as a forename in Britain. It has gained popularity ever since, and we know at least 4 other kids called Coby in recent years.
I like it! A nickname could be Cool Coby or Cobe.
Ugh, no. So jock and unintellectual-looking.
Masculine.
Better as a nickname rather than a name.
Coby is a nice name, I like it but Jake used for Jacob is more powerful. It's my name and I love it!
The name Coby was given to 124 boys born in the US in 2015.
My name is Coby, and I like my name. It's short for Cobyan. If I'm being honest I prefer the short version.. I'm 19 and from Ireland and no, the name has no Irish history as far as I know. Just seems like my parents wanted to be original.
For some reason I like the name Coby more than Jacob. If you are concerned with the adult world, call him Jacob when he is older.
Our daughter is called Cobi. It suits her so well and it's a name that will grow with her. We love it! Especially since in the UK its hardly used.
It's an unusual and interesting name rather than the more common names.
It does seem more of a feminine name to me, but it does get used as a boys name as well.
Quite popular in Israel as a diminutive of Yaakov.
Canadian actress Jacoba "Cobie" Smulders bears this name, although with a different spelling.
This name is also used in The Netherlands, where it is exclusively used for females.
This name sounds more like the name of a 13-year-old boy than that of a grown man. Too immature, and also a bit annoying. Boys from hell come to mind. And this name for females? Atrocious. Imagine meeting a cute little girl and asking her what her name is, and she says it's Coby. You would find that weird, wouldn't you? This name only sounds okay on tomboyish girls, if ''okay'' is defined as ''well, it's a butt-ugly, boyish name, but the girl herself is boyish and, well, not the most attractive girl out there''. The name would already sound awful on a 14-year-old girl, even if she looked masculine.
I also like the spelling Koby.
Very cute - a lovely name.
It can also be spelt "Kobe" as in the case of basketball player Kobe Bryant.
I have an orange tabby cat that I named Coby short for "Cobalt" because he has blue eyes. If it weren't for my cat being named this, I would name a future son "Cobalt" or "Coby". I think it is strong, masculine and friendly. However, I have surprisingly had adults who would ask me if it was after Kobe Bryant, which they disapproved of because of his alleged molestation of a young girl.
Also spelled Cobee, Cobie, Koby, Kobee, Kobie.
Dutch pronunciation is KO-bee.
