Meaning & History

Transferred use of a surname deriving either from Durward or Dorothy. Made famous by Charles Dickens in his novel Little Dorrit (1855-7) and first-name usage probably derives from it. Dorrit, Doritt and Dorit have all been used as first names, as have Dorita and Doritha.
