Not a fan of the hard E sound. It's a bit grating. It does have a trendy and smart vibe to it though so it's not exactly a bad name.

As a man named "Farhan", the name "Ethan" seems to rhyme perfectly with my name! This is perhaps the most ideal name for my future firstborn son!

I don't really like the first 'EE' sound, and all the Ethans I've ever met were annoying, poorly raised little boys.

I LOVE this name. My future son's name is Ethan, I have only met one Ethan, and I honestly don't hear it much, there is nothing to not like about the name, it's fun to say and write.

The name strikes me as a lousy attempt at name-picking. Nobody with common sense and a logical mind names their child "Ethan".

This name is reserved for royalty and Greek gods. It is a shame - nay, a travesty, to see this name being wasted on the new generation, who are truly unworthy to bear its burden.

My 25 year old son is Ethan. Again a name that suits him. Back when he was born it was not that popular and he was the only Ethan in his year at school. Came across the name in a TV series called Paradise, Ethan Allen Cord played by Lee Horsley. Decided on Ethan as originally thought of Nathan, but was too popular.

My brother's name is Ethan and he’s very annoying. I know another Ethan and he’s kind of annoying too. I do not recommend naming your kid Ethan because then they’ll turn out to not be nice and will be annoying and rude, so yeah, that’s just my opinion but you can choose.

My mom used to work with an Ethan. He looked like Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys, except with a pocket protector. Coke bottle glasses. Balding. Tarter teeth. A white Urkle. That image is what gets conjured up every time I think of the name Ethan. I can’t relate to the people who think Ethan is surfer dude cool or mountain man strong at all.

Ethan is a short and sweet biblical name. I love the name Ethan because of a past experience with one but it's my second or first favorite boy name. I'm conflicted with Alexander, another boy name that I'm conflicted with is Theo. I'm not sure if I want just Theo or Theodore.

One of my favorite boy names, even though it's always at the top of the popularity charts. Strong; Biblical; easy to spell and pronounce; good for all ages 1 to 100 years. Another plus: it has (and needs) no nickname, which is great if you want your son to be called by his complete name. Similar names would be Adam, Luke, George, Isaac, Aaron, Colin, Simon, Justin, Caleb.

Ethan is an OK name, nothing I would use. It sounds to boring and it's too common! It also hardly goes with a middle name. If you like "AN" ending boys names use Evan, not Ethan.

I used to really like this name: Cute on a boy, intelligent on an adolescent, mysterious on an adult, and it remains quite handsome throughout the years. Now I don't know what to think. I read Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton, and though it was very well written I despised Ethan's character. He was stupid and wrong in so many ways. So now this name has been tainted by that association. I really ought to get over myself, though. It's such a good name.

Ethan is one of my favourite names but it's crazy popular. That doesn't put me off using Ethan though, it just makes me a little sad.

To be blatantly honest: I cannot stand the name. It has the air of something that very artsy parents would choose... an observation that I do not think is half off (but as always, there are the odd exceptions). Do I necessarily hate the ones who bear it? Negative-- don't be silly. I simply find it... an unattractive, unusable, tacky name.

Ever since Ethan appeared as the cold-blooded "Other" on LOST, whenever I hear the the name I think of someone evil and conniving. Losties would refrain from using this name.

I really like this name a lot! Glad it's in its "reign". By "reign", I mean that the name stayed popular for several years. It might last until a few more years, when I assume the popularity will fall.

Ethan has been my ultimate favorite boy's name for the last 5 years or so. I've still got a while until I even want to think about children, but I'm convinced this will be my future son's name. It's everything I want in a boy's name, it's strong yet gentle, intellectual, but not too pretentious, and it's traditional but not too common (up until recently which makes me very upset). I do agree that it sounds a little bit whiny as child's name, but as both a teenager's name and a man's name, I think it's gorgeous. I find it goes really well with a lot of different middle names too.

My son's name. When he was born (1995) it was not particularly in fashion, about #50. People would often mistake his name for Ian, Nathan or Steven. Now it's everywhere. I think it sounds masculine, not wispy. He likes his name fairly well, though when he was younger he wanted to be called Christopher or Nicholas.

Oh, good Lord, don't name your boy Ethan, whatever you do! It's horrible! It sounds fey and frou frou beyond belief. If you want your son to get beat up at school and end up working in a women's hair salon, then name him Ethan.

This is my little brother's name (he was born in 2004, it's the *fifth* most popular name that year, and it was supposed to be Owen or Emmet anyway, grr). We went to the library for a kids' story time, and 4 of the 5 boys there were named Ethan.
