Meaning & History

Derived from Old Norse freyja, which means "lady" but can also refer to the goddess Freya, combined with Old Norse leif meaning "inheritance, legacy". The Icelandic author Eiríkur Örn Norðdahl used it for a character in his novel Gæska: Skáldsaga (2009).
