From the Roman cognomen Frontinus, which essentially means "one with a small forehead", as it is composed of Latin fronto meaning "one with a large forehead" (see Fronto) combined with the Latin masculine diminutive suffix -inus.A known bearer of this name was Sextus Julius Frontinus, one of the most distinguished Roman senators of the late 1st century AD.
