Meaning & History

Probably from the ancient Hebrew noun חור (hur), which means "something white" or "white stuff". This name belonged to several characters in the Old Testament, including a character in The Book of Exodus, who, along with Aaron, held up Moses' hands. This brought about victory over the Amalekites for Israel.
