Iphigeneia: a sonorous paradigm, a bold refrain in the linguistic orchestra. A majestic daughter of Agamemnon's line, courage coinciding with grace. Through the chords of fate, the heart perceives a great sadness masked by joy -- time flows like a river, and the legends and prophecies which once favored the ancient people are bound to repeat themselves at some point. Through Iphigeneia's wistful lament, we are invited to put a piece of ourselves into the proverbial kingdom of dreams before we must lie down to rest.
The usual English pronunciation of the name is "If-i-je-NIE-a."
Unattractive. There are much better Greek names.
Yikes. Not meaning to be rude, but this looks like an illness or something.
Very strangely, this is also the Greek form of Felicity, don't ask why.
Character from Geek Love.
It does rather look like a name for a disease.
In the movie "Mrs. Doubtfire," Robin Williams's female persona was named Euphegenia Doubtfire. Is this closer in meaning to "Iphegenia," or "Eugenia?"(Edit: Apologies. I was not aware that Euphegenia was already submitted to this site...)
Iphigeneia was the eldest daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. She was sacrificed to Artemis at Aulis by Agamemnon so that the Greek army could sail to Troy. Because of this, Clytemnestra killed Agamemnon to avenge her.
It’s looks like a disease.
This is a beautiful name. I think it would be a bit long for a kid and, perhaps, a bit too formal, but it is lovely.
Sounds like an illness or medical term, and also hard to pronounce.
The Greek pronunciation is if-ih-JEN-ya with a soft g sound in the stressed syllable.
Actually, in Greek, the pronunciation of the name is "if-ee-ye-nee-a".
Actually, it's pronounced if-i-jen-IE-uh.
Pronounced if-ih-gih-NAY-uh.
I honestly prefer this variant to Iphigenia, even though Iphigeneia is five syllables long. (Therefore, a nickname is almost a necessity.)
